NYSSIU unites insurance fraud professionals across New York to advance investigative excellence and support fair, effective enforcement of insurance laws.

NYSSIU promotes professionalism and cooperation among insurance fraud investigators, law enforcement, and industry partners throughout New York State. Our mission is to enhance investigative effectiveness and foster trust between public and private sectors.

Founded in 1997, the New York State Chapter of the International Association of Special Investigation Units (NYSSIU) EIN 16-1523685, is a not-for-profit organization. We encourage high professional standards of conduct among insurance professionals and support legislation that acts as a deterrent to insurance fraud crimes.
Our mission is to promote a coordinated effort within the insurance industry to combat insurance fraud as well as develop and promote a greater awareness of the problem of insurance fraud. We accomplish this mission by providing regularly scheduled education and training seminars throughout New York State for our Chapter members and the Insurance Industry at large. Our training programs are designed to facilitate coordination and cooperation with law enforcement and criminal justice agencies in the investigation and prosecution of insurance fraud crimes.
Our membership comprises both Regular, Associate, and Supporting Partner members. Regular members include insurance fraud investigators employed by insurance companies and self-insured corporations engaged in anti-fraud activities in conformance with the goals and objectives of the Association, as well as special agents or supervisory special agents of the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB).
Associate members include local, state, or federal law enforcement officers or prosecutors involved in or providing special expertise for the investigation and/or prosecution of insurance fraud crime, as well as full-time investigators or investigation supervisors of a state insurance fraud bureau. Supporting members include organizations that provide resources or collaboration in advancing insurance fraud prevention.
The NYSSIU’s parent organization, the International Association of Special Investigation Units (IASIU), was founded in 1984 by a small group of insurance industry fraud investigators.
